Evergreen is a website displaying past jobs and works of designer Ryuichi Tateno in the field of Latin alphabet design, including type design, logotype design, and calligraphy.

RYUICHI TATENO BIOGRAPHY

Graphic designer, Calligrapher and Type designer

Born in 1964.
Graduated from the visual communication design course of the school of art and design, University of Tsukuba.
After working at a graphic design company for seven years, launched a career as an independent freelance designer.
Extremely influenced by watching a 16 millimeter film about the German calligrapher Hermann Zapf.
Studied typography from The Kazui Press, a letterpress printer, and studied calligraphy from Muriel Gaggini’s The MG School of Latin Calligraphy.
Pirouette, his first type design, won a 1st prize award at the International Type Design Contest for the display type category in 2003.
Pirouette was released by Linotype in 2004.
Pirouette was selected for a Certificate of Excellence in Type Design from the Type Directors Club in 2005.
Won a special commendation for a calligraphy piece at the exhibition of the International Calligraphy Union in 2006.

Magazine appearances
One piece included in Letter Art Review in 2003.
Four pieces included in Letter Art Review in 2007.

Currently, teaches two workshops at the MG School of Latin Calligraphy.
